It should go without saying that we can expect to see more Android-powered handsets coming to market in 2009, of course that should not stop us from getting a little excited when we see who they are coming from. The latest news has Garmin preparing to have something ready sometime in the second half of 2009.
“Garmin also plans to launch self-developed Android handsets in the second half of 2009, with production to be outsourced.”
That said, the details are still for the most part unknown, but based on who this is, we can assume it will be GPS friendly. Otherwise, the only other detail that we can confirm is that Garmin will be outsourcing the actual handset design to Asus.
In addition to the lack of details on the phone, we are also still unsure of where the Android-powered Garmin handset will be released. While I would hope that we will see it here in the US, I have to point out that the information is coming courtesy of Tony An who is the Asia Pacific Marketing Director for Garmin.
