Dataviz bringing Microsoft Office apps to Android in 2009

Dataviz, longtime provider of PDA software offering document access and mobile email, has announced they will be releasing versions of their Documents To Go and RoadSync apps for the Android platform in 2009. Having enabled Palm access to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents for over 10 years, and currently providing productivity software for Palm OS, Symbian OS, Windows Mobile, Java, Linux, Windows and Macintosh, DataViz is now expanding into the growing Android arena.

In what is surely one more step along the path toward enterprise user adoption of the Android platform, the new apps will provide mobile access and interaction with Microsoft Office files for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Adobe PDF documents with their Documents To Go program. In addition, they plan to offer push email through their RoadSync app which can sync with Outlook email, contacts, and calendar items through Exchange ActiveSync. There is no mention of whether the contacts and calendar will sync with the native Android apps. The press announcement on DataViz’s Office Mobility Blog does not give a release date, but does say the image shown is an actual screenshot and not a mock-up.
